Residents sue Schiphol over noise-induced health issues

Several residents living near Schiphol Airport are filing a lawsuit alleging mistreatment due to noise pollution. The complaint is initiated by the organization Schiphol Watch and a resident, as confirmed by criminal lawyer Bénédicte Ficq to the NOS.

The filing is expected in February next year. The lawsuit targets KLM, Transavia, and the Dutch government as a shareholder of the airport, claiming “years of sleep deprivation caused by severe noise disturbance.” According to Ficq, unexpected nighttime noise causes stress and uncertainty due to inconsistent government policies.

The lawsuit seeks to have nighttime flights legally recognized as mistreatment. KLM has acknowledged the case and is awaiting developments, while Schiphol’s response is forthcoming.
