Record cocaine haul seized in the Dominican Republic

Over 9,500 kilograms of cocaine have been seized in the Dominican Republic, marking a record haul according to authorities. The drugs were destined for Belgium.

Police have launched an investigation into ten individuals linked to the seizure. The discovery was made at the port of Caucedo, near Santo Domingo.

The cocaine was hidden in a container of bananas from Guatemala and was intended to be transferred to another container bound for Belgium. The 9,528 kilograms of cocaine were packed in 320 bags.

Government-released footage shows anti-drug unit members with the intercepted drugs. The street value of the cocaine amounts to hundreds of millions of euros.
