Rare first edition of Anne Frank’s diary sold for €3550

A thrift store in Burgum, Friesland, sold a first edition of Anne Frank’s “Het Achterhuis” for €3550. The book was nearly discarded in a recycling bin but was saved by a new employee at Omrin Estafette.

Discovered to be a first edition, the book was listed on Marktplaats with a starting bid of €250. Interest grew rapidly, and cautious handling became necessary.

The final sale involved three potential buyers, with the highest offer securing the purchase. Despite the close call, store manager Andries Jan Hovinga expressed relief and gratitude that the book was preserved.
