Protesters in Kinshasa, the capital of the Democratic Republic of the Congo, have attacked several embassies. According to Reuters, the diplomatic missions of the US, France, Rwanda, Uganda, and Kenya were targeted.
The extent of the damage remains unclear. Social media images show fires set at the embassies, but it is uncertain if the protesters managed to enter the premises.
The unrest in Kinshasa follows the fall of the key eastern city of Goma to M23 rebels, who reportedly received support from the Rwandan military, as per the UN. Dutch Foreign Minister Veldkamp condemned the attacks on foreign representatives and urged Dutch nationals to stay indoors for safety.
He emphasized ensuring the security of Dutch personnel as a top priority in this serious situation. Further updates will follow.
