As Christmas approaches, the first wave of winter sports enthusiasts is heading to the Alps. In recent years, snow during Christmas has been unpredictable in the region, although higher slopes have generally fared better.
This year, conditions appear promising. A weather front will bring initial rain, transitioning to snow over the Alps through Friday morning, with snow levels dropping below 1000 meters.
Between 10 and 30 centimeters of fresh snow is expected, mainly in Switzerland. Friday will be mostly dry with occasional snow showers and periods of sunshine.
