Police officers face disciplinary action for racist remarks

Two police officers have been disciplined for making statements on X that are deemed “unprofessional and/or discriminatory and/or racist” by the police. These actions are considered “serious misconduct,” and appropriate penalties are being determined.

One officer faces a conditional dismissal, another has had a portion of their salary withheld for inappropriate remarks. A third officer’s actions were found unaccountable, and a fourth is awaiting investigation results.

The comments were made on private accounts, detected by the police webcare team in November 2023. The VIK department conducted the investigation.

This incident is part of a wider issue of racism within the police, with previous cases in Walcheren and Rotterdam involving racist remarks and behaviors. The police aim to address such conduct through further investigation and training.
