The police have received over fifty tips regarding the art theft at the Drents Museum in Assen. These tips are currently being investigated.
Last night, the police released footage showing an explosion at an outer door followed by a break-in. Today, investigators continue to analyze the footage, describing it as a “precise and time-consuming activity.” The Drents Museum building was damaged, and the police believe multiple suspects are involved.
The theft, occurring overnight between Friday and Saturday, involved the loss of Romanian masterpieces—specifically, the so-called golden helmet of Cotofenesti and three golden bracelets. These items were on loan from the National Museum of History in Bucharest.
According to museum director Harry Tupan, the entire incident only lasted a few minutes. This morning, a Romanian delegation visited to assess the theft site.
Tupan mentioned that a decision on reopening will be made tomorrow.
