Peter Houtman to retire as Feyenoord stadium announcer

Peter Houtman will step down as the stadium announcer for Feyenoord at the end of this season, a role he has held for 27 years. The former striker has been recently diagnosed with Alzheimer’s disease.

“It is with a heavy heart that I have decided to resign from my duties at the end of this season,” Houtman stated on Feyenoord’s website. He noted that although the disease is in its early stages, its progression is unpredictable.

He emphasized that both the club and its supporters deserve the best, thus he feels it is appropriate to step aside. Houtman also revealed that his wife is terminally ill, and they wish to spend their remaining time fulfilling their plans and enjoying moments with loved ones.

Peter Houtman was a speaker at De Kuip for 27 years and had a long career with Feyenoord, including playing and later as a youth coach. He also played for FC Groningen and Club Brugge and scored seven goals in eight international matches for the Netherlands between 1983 and 1985.

Despite stepping down, Houtman plans to continue attending matches with his sons. In 2023, he was knighted in the Order of Orange-Nassau for his contributions, including his time at Feyenoord.
