Oil Tanker Drifts Near Germany, Sparking Environmental Fears

An oil tanker carrying approximately 100,000 tons of oil went adrift near the German island of Rügen in the Baltic Sea on Friday. The vessel, named Eventin, was en route from the Russian port of Ust-Luga to Port Said in Egypt when it experienced a power outage near Germany’s coast, leaving it without propulsion and lighting.

Currently, a German tug holds the ship in place, but stormy weather emerged in the area in the evening. Several tugs are now en route to secure the vessel off the coast of Rügen and prevent an oil spill.
