The NS travelers’ forum is abuzz, not with debate over the new timetable, but over the company’s mistake with its ‘Wintercity’ campaign. An online advent calendar allowed participants to win prizes, such as NS Christmas sweaters and a private chef at home.
However, the latter prize experienced an error, according to AD. Thousands received an email claiming they won the luxury home dinner.
The dinner package included a five-course meal for up to six people, with the chef bringing the tableware. It turned out that around 6,000 people received the winner’s email instead of just one.
The NS explained to NOS that a confirmation email should have been sent for participation in the previous day’s activity, but a technical error led to the prize email being sent to 6,000 addresses. The actual winner was supposed to receive the email a day later.
This morning, NS realized the mistake. Despite the oversight, the company will continue with the Wintercity campaign and has conducted additional technical checks.
Participants on the forum suggested hosting a dinner at Utrecht Central, but the NS has no current plans for this. Some forum members noted a similar mistake last year when many believed they won a free overnight stay, but this was also sent in error.
The NS spokesperson acknowledged a previous issue with the holiday campaign but was unsure of the details.
