Ukraine has captured a North Korean soldier fighting for Russia, marking the first such instance. The South Korean intelligence service confirmed this after a photo of the man appeared on the social media platform Telegram.
The photo suggests the man may be injured, but his condition is unclear, as are the details of his capture. Since last month, approximately 10,000 North Korean troops have been estimated to be fighting for Russia, primarily in the Kursk region, where Ukraine initiated a counteroffensive in August.
Despite some retreat, fighting continues in the area. Ukraine reports significant shortages and heavy losses among the North Korean forces, with President Zelensky stating on Monday that at least 3,000 North Korean soldiers have been killed or injured.
On the same day, Seoul reported a lower figure of 1,000 soldiers disabled.
