Netanyahu delays meeting on Hamas ceasefire deal

Israeli Prime Minister Netanyahu has postponed the security cabinet meeting on the indefinite ceasefire deal reached yesterday. The cabinet was scheduled to meet this morning to discuss the agreement with Hamas, followed by a full ministerial endorsement.

However, Netanyahu claims Hamas is reneging on the deal, causing a last-minute crisis by attempting to extract further concessions. The Prime Minister’s office stated that the cabinet will not convene until negotiators confirm Hamas’s acceptance of all aspects of the agreement.

The Israeli newspaper Haaretz reported that, according to Netanyahu, Hamas wants to alter the terms concerning Palestinian prisoners, insisting on dictating which Palestinians Israel should release, contrary to Israel’s position of case-by-case refusal rights. Hamas has responded by affirming its commitment to the terms agreed upon yesterday, with the ceasefire set to commence at 11:15 AM Dutch time on Sunday.
