Israeli Prime Minister Netanyahu announced that the final details for a ceasefire with Hamas have been settled. He posted on X that the negotiating team reached an agreement regarding prisoner release.
His security cabinet is expected to approve the deal later today. Netanyahu stated that Israel aims to meet its war objectives, including the return of all hostages.
International negotiators announced on Wednesday night that an agreement for a ceasefire between Israel and Hamas was reached, set to start on Sunday. Initially, Hamas would release 33 of around 100 hostages in exchange for Israel freeing dozens of Palestinian prisoners and withdrawing from parts of Gaza.
However, Netanyahu reported a delay, citing Hamas’s last-minute demands for additional concessions, which Hamas denied. The precise issues remain unclear.
The agreement is contentious within Netanyahu’s coalition, with far-right Security Minister Ben-Gvir threatening to resign if concessions are made to Hamas. Finance Minister Smotrich also criticized the deal, opposing further negotiations with Hamas.
Meanwhile, Israeli attacks on Gaza continue, with reports of over 70 casualties yesterday and a total of over 46,000 deaths according to Palestinian figures.
