Neil Young confirms Glastonbury performance after reversal

Neil Young has announced that he will perform at the UK festival Glastonbury, despite previously declining a headlining spot. The 79-year-old musician initially stated that he and his band did not want to perform because the BBC “wanted us to do things in a way we were not comfortable with.” The specifics of his concerns remain unclear.

The BBC has been a partner of Glastonbury since 1997, one of Europe’s largest outdoor festivals. Young wrote on his website today, “Due to misinformation I received, I decided not to play at Glastonbury, a festival I have always loved.

Fortunately, it is back on our schedule, and I look forward to playing there.” The Glastonbury organizers expressed their delight on Instagram, stating, “Neil Young is dear to our hearts. He does things his own way, and that’s why we love him.

We can’t wait to welcome him back.” Typically, the BBC broadcasts most of the festival, but when Young last performed there in 2009, the broadcaster was permitted to air only five songs from his set. At the time, the BBC stated that Young wanted to maintain “the mystery of a live concert.” It’s unclear whether this year’s performance will be televised.

Glastonbury is scheduled from June 25 to June 29 this year, with other artist names yet to be announced.
