NATO’s Rutte warns of future threats, urges defense investment

Mark Rutte, in his first major speech as NATO Secretary-General, emphasized the need for increased defense funding to prevent future conflicts, highlighting that public support from NATO countries is crucial. Rutte stated that we should prepare for potential warfare, citing current global tensions, including the conflict in Ukraine and North Korea’s involvement with Russia.

He expressed concerns about Russia’s long-term confrontation plans and the actions of China, North Korea, and Iran to undermine Western interests. Rutte noted that, while there is no immediate military threat to NATO, the security situation is alarming.

He urged NATO nations to accelerate their defense efforts and called for citizen support to ensure future security.
