Multiple fatalities in Montenegro bar shooting

In Montenegro, several people were killed when a man opened fire during an altercation in a bar. A television station reports five fatalities, while other sources mention seven.

An unspecified number of people were injured. The shooting occurred in Cetinje, a town of 20,000 in the western part of the country.

The suspect, a 45-year-old man, is at large. The motive behind the altercation is unclear.

A local TV station reported that the suspect was known for unpredictable behavior and had previously been imprisoned for illegal weapon possession. He reportedly went home to retrieve a weapon after the altercation.

He initially fired in the bar, killing and injuring several people, and then went to another location where he reportedly shot the bar owner’s children and a woman. The police have urged residents to remain calm and stay indoors.

Cetinje was Montenegro’s capital until World War I. While gun ownership is widespread in Montenegro, mass shootings are rare. Despite strict gun laws, many illegal firearms are in circulation.
