For over a decade, Israel’s Mossad worked on an operation involving explosive pagers and walkie-talkies targeting Hezbollah in Lebanon, as disclosed by two retired Mossad agents in an interview with CBS News’ 60 Minutes. The operation, which resulted in thousands of casualties in September, was designed to convey a message of Israeli superiority in the Middle East, according to the agents.
Hezbollah unknowingly purchased explosive devices disguised as legitimate products from a company set up by Mossad, believing it to be a Taiwanese firm. On September 17, these devices were detonated simultaneously, causing injuries and deaths among Hezbollah fighters and civilians.
The Mossad claims the operation aimed to incapacitate rather than kill, yet UN experts labeled it a potential war crime due to indiscriminate targeting. Following the attack, Israel launched airstrikes and a ground offensive in Lebanon, with significant civilian casualties reported.
Israeli Prime Minister Netanyahu acknowledged the operation, and Mossad agents hinted at future covert actions against Hezbollah.
