In San Juan Amecac, Mexico, a mob of around 300 people lynched three men yesterday, accusing them of abducting a girl, local authorities reported. Videos on social media show a man hanging lifelessly from a pole and two nearly naked men on the ground.
A local news site claims these two men were burned alive. Police arrived but were unable to save the men.
This incident is not isolated; earlier this year, four men in Atlixco, Puebla, were killed for allegedly stealing a car. In March, in Taxco, a woman was beaten to death by locals who blamed her for the death of her 8-year-old neighbor.
The girl’s mother reportedly received ransom demands but claimed police did not help recover her daughter alive. Two men connected to the girl’s death survived the mob attack, which was recorded showing police as bystanders.
Family members of the girl were also reportedly involved in the attack.
