Minister Agema concerned about healthcare budget cuts

Minister Agema of Health is struggling with recent healthcare budget cuts. Recently, the coalition and opposition agreed to reverse some education cuts, financing this partly by reducing budgets for medical training and specialist salaries.

The House of Representatives approved these changes yesterday. Agema had intended to address excessive specialist salaries but opposes cuts in training programs, expressing concern for both specialists and nurses.

She warned negotiating parties of the consequences when she learned about it through the media. Although acknowledging the House’s right to amend budgets, she stressed the health care labor market’s fragility, questioning future staffing capabilities if further cuts occur.

Agema seeks to assess the implications and consult with the healthcare sector. Finance Minister Heinen, more indifferent, mentioned his limited involvement in negotiations, ensuring budget adjustments were justified.

He acknowledged the House’s approval of all budget changes and anticipated Agema’s briefing by Mr. Wilders.
