Mega Millions Winner Becomes Instant Billionaire

In the town of Cottonwood, USA, a person became a billionaire overnight after winning €1.25 billion in the Mega Millions lottery. The winner, residing approximately 300 kilometers north of San Francisco, correctly matched all six numbers in the draw held on Friday night.

According to the company, this is the sixth-largest prize in the game’s history. Mega Millions head Joshua Johnston commented, “What a wonderful gift during the holidays, and an incredibly special moment for our winner.” The jackpot had not been won in the previous thirty draws, allowing it to accumulate to over a billion.

The odds of winning the jackpot are 1 in 302,575,350. The record for the largest jackpot was set in November 2022, also in California, with a Powerball prize of over $2 billion.

The winner chose to receive the full amount over 29 years. Winners often opt for a lump sum, which would have been $997.6 million for the 2022 Powerball winner.
