Massive protests in Belgrade target state broadcaster

In Belgrade, Serbia, tens of thousands gathered yesterday to protest outside the public broadcaster RTS, accusing it of being a government mouthpiece. This protest marks one of the largest against the broadcaster in years.

Criticism of RTS has persisted, with a previous incident in 2019 where anti-government demonstrators breached the broadcaster’s building. Protesters are currently angered by the state television’s coverage of allegations from populist President Vucic, who claims university students leading the protests are funded by foreign intelligence to overthrow his government violently.
