Margarita Louis-Dreyfus sees wealth increase despite challenges

Russian-Swiss billionaire Margarita Louis-Dreyfus experienced a significant increase in her wealth from her Amsterdam-based company, largely due to successful operations of the Louis Dreyfus Company, a major player in the global commodities trade. Despite ceasing grain exports from Russia and selling assets there at a loss last year, the company reported a total revenue of approximately $50 billion, with a profit rising to $1 billion from $770 million in 2022.

Margarita, who inherited a majority share in the company after her husband’s death in 2009, has increased her stake to 96% through strategic acquisitions funded by a loan from Credit Suisse, which was fully repaid last year. Although Akira bv, which holds her shares, has become less transparent in its financial reporting, it showed a substantial increase in equity by nearly 800 million euros.

Neither Akira nor Louis Dreyfus Holding provided comments on the developments.
