New York police have released two new images of the suspect who fatally shot Brian Thompson, a UnitedHealthcare executive, on Wednesday. The search in the United States continues, but crucial leads are missing, including the suspect’s name and the murder weapon.
The 50-year-old was shot near a hotel during a company event. Authorities suspect the attack was planned and meticulously executed.
The suspect evaded police and was seen at a bus station shortly after the attack, but his subsequent movements are unknown. The bicycle used for the escape has not been found, but the suspect’s backpack was discovered in Central Park, containing Monopoly money and a Tommy Hilfiger jacket.
Divers searched a pond in the park for the murder weapon. The FBI is offering a $50,000 reward for information leading to an arrest.
Despite substantial evidence, including DNA and a partial fingerprint on a discarded water bottle, the suspect remains unidentified five days post-attack. Investigators are considering if the shooter was a disgruntled employee or customer.
Shell casings at the scene were marked with “delay,” “deny,” and “depose,” possibly alluding to criticisms of UnitedHealthcare’s handling of insurance claims. Following the murder, other insurers have heightened security and removed executive photos online.
