Man sentenced to 14 years for wife’s murder and burning

A 45-year-old man from Reuver, Limburg, has been sentenced to 14 years in prison for killing and burning his wife. The court found that Ahmed I. deliberately killed his wife in June 2022 and burned her body along a highway in Germany.

The body was discovered shortly after under a viaduct in Mainz-Bingen, about 220 kilometers from Reuver. Months passed before the woman’s identity was determined through forensic analysis in October 2022.

I. was arrested and has been in custody since. The court ruled intentional murder despite the body’s decomposed state preventing a determination of the cause of death.

I. claimed he hit his wife once, leading to her death due to illness. He admitted to hiding the body in their home for days, then transporting it to Germany.

The court dismissed his explanation as “unlikely,” noting witness accounts of domestic abuse and threats made by I. The sentence matches the prosecution’s demand, and I. must also compensate the victim’s family.
