Man involved in fatal crash arrested in UAE

A 31-year-old man who caused a fatal car accident in Lelystad in 2019 has been arrested in the United Arab Emirates (UAE). He is believed to have been living there since 2022.

In November 2019, the man was driving nearly 140 kilometers per hour in an area with a speed limit of 70 kilometers per hour during rush hour. He collided with a car carrying a 67-year-old man and his 4-year-old grandson, both of whom died in the accident.

The deceased man’s wife, who was also in the car, was seriously injured but survived. In 2022, the man was sentenced to 18 months in prison, and after an appeal, an additional six months were added to his sentence, but he had disappeared.

A special team from the Public Prosecution Service (OM) and the police, which focuses on locating fugitives, conducted an investigation and found his whereabouts. The OM has requested the UAE to extradite the convicted individual to serve his prison sentence.
