A fire briefly broke out at an asylum seeker center in Eindhoven last night. Police arrested a man on suspicion of arson.
The center is located in a former hotel. The fire started shortly before 3:00 am on the third floor, prompting the evacuation of the entire building, according to Omroep Brabant.
Approximately 170 residents had to leave the premises as a precaution. The fire was contained to one room and was quickly brought under control, reported the regional safety authority.
It is being assessed whether residents can return or need relocation. Two people were examined by paramedics on-site for potential smoke inhalation.
A police spokesperson indicated that the suspect is one of those who inhaled smoke, but did not confirm if he is a resident of the center.
