KNMI issues orange alert for icy conditions in Groningen

The Royal Netherlands Meteorological Institute (KNMI) has issued an orange code warning for Groningen and the eastern part of Friesland, extending until 11:00 due to icy conditions. Ice forms when rain falls on a frozen surface.

The KNMI cautions that there is a significant risk of accidents, especially on bridges, bicycle paths, and footpaths. An orange code signifies a high likelihood of hazardous or extreme weather, with potentially significant impact.

Other parts of the Netherlands are also experiencing icy conditions in certain areas, except for the Wadden region where no ice is expected.
