KNMI issues fog warning for the Netherlands

The Royal Netherlands Meteorological Institute (KNMI) has issued a warning for dense fog across the Netherlands, which could create hazardous road conditions tonight and in the morning. As a result, code yellow is in effect from 22:00 for all provinces except the Wadden Islands.

This morning, code yellow was already in place nationwide due to fog, but it was lifted in many provinces later in the day. However, the KNMI announced this afternoon that code yellow will be reissued across the country starting tonight.

The fog is expected to spread in the coming hours, and the warning will remain in effect until 10:00 tomorrow morning. Visibility may be reduced to less than 200 meters in some areas, which could pose a danger to traffic, leading to potential accidents.

Drivers are advised to reduce speed and increase distance from other vehicles. The fog has already caused issues today, with accidents occurring in various locations and vessels being turned back from the Wadden Sea by Rijkswaterstaat due to visibility below 200 meters.
