Khalid Kasem will not return to BNNVARA, as the broadcaster announced the immediate termination of their collaboration without further explanation. Kasem, 46, has not appeared on television since late January following bribery allegations during his time as a lawyer.
An article in AD claimed that in 2019, Kasem admitted to bribing an official to secure an early release for a client during a conversation with his colleague Peter R. de Vries. Kasem denied these accusations, but was replaced by Jeroen Pauw on the show Khalid & Sophie.
In March, the dean of the Amsterdam Bar Association found no evidence of bribery, and the Judicial Institutions Service reached the same conclusion. BNNVARA previously stated it was too soon for Kasem’s return due to ongoing discussions about him and mentioned reviewing their long-term collaboration.
Kasem expressed on Instagram his sadness over the outcome, but also pride and fondness for his past work.
