Italian deputy PM Salvini acquitted in 2019 migrant case

The court in Palermo has acquitted Italian Deputy Prime Minister Salvini. He faced charges for refusing to allow a ship carrying 147 rescued migrants to dock at Lampedusa in 2019, when he was Minister of the Interior.

The ship remained at sea for nearly three weeks until authorities seized it, citing Salvini’s policy as a breach of international law. Prosecutors had sought a six-year prison sentence for Salvini.
