Investigation Launched into Officer’s Use of Force at Event

The Public Prosecution Service has initiated a criminal investigation into a police officer who used a baton against partygoers at an event venue in Ruinerwold, Drenthe, in August last year. The prosecution believes the baton use was disproportionate and likely violated police force regulations.

This conclusion is based on witness statements and available video footage. The officer, accompanied by a colleague and two municipal enforcement officers, was responding to a wedding celebration.

Force was used when cooperation with a control was not provided, resulting in injuries to multiple individuals. The police later apologized, stating the situation should have been resolved differently.

The investigation has shifted from a fact-finding mission to a criminal inquiry, granting the officer suspect status. The actions of the second officer were deemed lawful by the prosecutor.
