A day after the explosions at Tarwekamp in The Hague, the cause remains unclear. Justice and Security Minister Van Weel stated there are indications of a potential crime.
Both he and Prime Minister Schoof visited the site today, with Van Weel noting that police are exploring multiple scenarios, including that of a crime. He did not elaborate on the evidence suggesting criminal activity.
The Safety Board has dispatched two investigators for preliminary research on the collapsed building. Additionally, police are searching for a car seen speeding away after the explosions, and are requesting any tips or camera footage.
Minister Van Weel emphasized the importance of supporting victims and families. Nineteen homes were damaged, and at least five people died, with the number potentially rising.
The safety region cannot confirm that all individuals have been accounted for under the debris, as certain variables prevent that certainty. They continue the search, and the timeframe remains uncertain, as careful excavation continues until reaching the building’s foundation.
