Interview with Dutch Defense Minister Disrupted at University

An interview with Dutch Defense Minister Brekelmans at the University of Amsterdam was cut short today due to continuous interruptions by activists. The minister was invited by the discussion platform Room for Discussion, which hosts interviews with officials.

The atmosphere was tense outside the event at Roeterseiland, with demonstrators expressing their discontent by chanting slogans like “Free Palestine.” Inside, Brekelmans struggled to be heard over shouting attendees. After 15 minutes, security escorted him offstage, and the interview continued in a reduced capacity in another room.

The police did not make any arrests despite the tense situation. A Room for Discussion organizer expressed disappointment over the minister’s early departure.

Brekelmans later remarked on the importance of open dialogue at universities, criticizing the disruption. This is not the first time such an incident occurred; previous interviews with officials have also been disrupted by protests.
