Intern arrested for alleged offenses at Dutch pool

A 20-year-old intern at a swimming pool in Zelhem is suspected of committing sexual offenses against young children. Multiple reports have been filed against the man, according to the pool’s director as reported by Omroep Gelderland.

The suspect began his internship at De Brink swimming pool in Zelhem in September, assisting in teaching children aged four to six. The pool received two reports of alleged inappropriate behavior by the intern, leading to a decision to file charges.

The police arrested the suspect from the municipality of Bronckhorst on December 17, suspecting him of misconduct at the pool. He was released under conditions earlier this year.

The pool informed the parents of about 800 children via a letter about the arrest, prompting dozens of concerned parents to contact GGD Gelderland. A spokesperson from GGD stated that parents are seeking advice on discussing these matters with their children and asking if they experienced anything similar.

Pool director Erik Weening could not disclose the exact number of reports due to the ongoing investigation, describing it as a significant and serious case. The pool plans to hold an information evening for parents soon.
