Inflation has slightly decreased. In January, prices were on average 3.3 percent higher than a year ago, according to preliminary estimates by the Dutch Central Bureau of Statistics (CBS).
In December, inflation was at 4.1 percent. The price increase for services, such as hairdressing and dining, was 4.4 percent in January, lower than the 5.8 percent increase a year earlier.
Energy prices were 1.4 percent lower than a year ago. However, the prices of food, beverages, and tobacco rose by 7 percent compared to 6.7 percent in December.
Last week, the European Central Bank (ECB) reduced the interest rate from 3 percent to 2.75 percent. The ECB had previously raised rates to combat inflation, but with inflation in the eurozone approaching the 2 percent target, it has now lowered rates.
In the Netherlands, inflation has remained above the European average.
