Police discovered 100 kilograms of illegal fireworks in a residential area in Hellevoetsluis. Two men, aged 29 and 63, were arrested.
Following an anonymous tip, police raided two homes on Mauritsplaats yesterday afternoon, finding boxes of illegal fireworks in a shed. The fireworks included professional avalanche flares and so-called mortars.
Some mortars were tied together, forming a more powerful explosive than a cobra, according to the police. The fireworks were confiscated.
“Considering the explosives were stored in a busy residential area in Hellevoetsluis, they are fortunate nothing happened,” the police concluded, noting that the consequences could have been severe.
