Icy roads cause accidents across the Netherlands

Icy conditions have led to multiple accidents across the Netherlands. The KNMI has issued a yellow warning for most of the country, excluding the Wadden Islands, effective until approximately 10:00 AM.

Rijkswaterstaat advises drivers to adjust their driving style. Near Donderden, Drenthe, a truck slid off the road before 8:00 AM.

The driver indicated that the road was extremely icy, making steering impossible. Between Geeuwenbrug and Hoogersmilde, a car went into the water, with icy conditions cited as the cause by RTV Drenthe.

In Limburg, snow fell again overnight, and from 2:00 AM, significant salting took place, according to a Rijkswaterstaat spokesperson via L1 News. On the A73 near Grubbenvorst, a car ended up in a ditch, but the driver was unharmed after being surprised by sudden icy conditions.

In Oss, North Brabant, a driver ended up on the wrong side of the road due to ice and overturned the vehicle. The driver was taken to the hospital with unknown injuries.

Few Traffic Jams Friday mornings are typically quiet regarding commuter traffic, so there are not many traffic jams, according to the ANWB. However, a traffic jam occurred on the A50 from Eindhoven to Oss due to a jackknifed truck, though it is unclear if ice caused this accident.

An accident on the A2 towards Maastricht at the Batadorp interchange caused delays of up to half an hour, with the cause still unknown. Salting Between 7:00 PM last night and 7:00 AM this morning, Rijkswaterstaat spread over 5 million kilograms of salt, covering more than 66,000 kilometers.
