Hurricane Chido, which devastated large parts of Mayotte last weekend, has moved to Mozambique. According to the UN Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA), at least 34 people have died and 319 have been injured in Mozambique.
Chido made landfall yesterday in the northern province of Cabo Delgado. The UN World Food Programme is distributing food in two locations in the province, while other aid organizations provide water and disease prevention supplies.
An estimated 175,000 Mozambicans have been directly affected by the hurricane, with approximately 1 million people already relying on aid due to regional unrest. Several armed groups aim to establish an Islamic state there, with the national army attempting to defeat them.
