A hunter from Ede has been sentenced to 120 hours of community service for carelessly hunting a boar. In March 2023, the 41-year-old man attempted to shoot a wild boar near Lunteren but accidentally hit a microcar.
The bullet pierced the vehicle, which was hundreds of meters behind the boar, causing serious injuries to the two occupants. Metal and debris fragments penetrated their bodies and had to be surgically removed where possible.
The incident also had psychological effects on the victims, according to Omroep Gelderland. The court ruled that the hunter acted without due care, shooting from a location where he was not allowed to carry a weapon or hunt.
Additionally, he must pay the victims 24,000 euros in damages. The sentence is lower than the public prosecutor’s demand, as the court acknowledged the hunter did not intend to hit the microcar.
