A missile launched by Houthi rebels in Yemen struck the Israeli city of Tel Aviv, injuring at least sixteen people, primarily due to flying glass from shattered windows. Fourteen additional people were injured while rushing to shelters during the air raid alert.
The Israeli military reported failed attempts to intercept the missile. The attack occurred around 4:00 am, waking millions with the alarm.
Residents near the impact site noted a short time between the siren and explosion. Last Thursday, another missile from Yemen targeted Israel but was intercepted by Israel’s air defense system.
Although it did not detonate in the air, it landed on an empty school building in Ramat Gan, causing significant damage without injuries. Following Thursday’s missile attack, Israel conducted airstrikes on Sanaa, the Houthi-controlled capital of Yemen, and the port city of Hodeida, essential for Yemen’s food supply.
At least nine people were killed in these strikes. UN Secretary-General António Guterres warned that hostilities from both sides risk further regional escalation and undermine UN mediation efforts.
Since the Gaza war began, the Houthis have regularly attacked Israel with missiles and drones, most of which are intercepted. They have also targeted ships in the Red Sea and the Gulf of Aden, declaring these attacks will continue until a ceasefire in Gaza is achieved.
