Hospitals in Mayotte continue to be overwhelmed with victims a week after the devastating cyclone. The official death toll is at 35, but the actual number is expected to be higher.
Over 1,500 people have been injured. In the main hospital of Mamoudzou, doctors face tough decisions due to extensive damage, causing a shortage of space to treat all victims.
Medical staff must prioritize the most severe cases. According to the head of obstetrics and gynecology, the hospital has lost 40 percent of its rooms, impacting about fifty to sixty rooms.
During the cyclone, three babies were born, one by caesarean section, as reported to AP.
