Holocaust Remembrance in Amsterdam Highlights Ongoing Issues

During the Holocaust Remembrance in Amsterdam’s Wertheim Park this morning, Prime Minister Dick Schoof emphasized that comparing the suffering of the Holocaust to current hardships does justice to no one. The annual National Holocaust Remembrance is observed on the last Sunday of January, coinciding with International Holocaust Memorial Day on January 27, commemorating the liberation of Auschwitz 80 years ago.

Nearly six million Jews, along with hundreds of thousands of Sinti, Roma, homosexuals, and others, were murdered by the Nazis between 1933 and 1945. In the Netherlands, 102,000 of the 140,000 Jews perished during the war.
