The renovation of the Heinenoord Tunnel on the A29 between Rotterdam and Bergen op Zoom has been completed, according to Rijkswaterstaat on X. The tunnel serves as a crucial link for the ports of Rotterdam and Antwerp and had multiple closures this and last year for the renovation. It reopened on Saturday at 11:30 PM after the final closure.
The renovation involved repairing the concrete walls and laying new asphalt. Additionally, the tunnel received new lighting, ventilation fans, matrix signs, cameras, and loudspeakers.
A new central escape route was also constructed between the two tunnel tubes for emergency use.
