Starting tomorrow, heavy vehicles are prohibited from using a viaduct over the A15 near the Valburg junction in Gelderland. Rijkswaterstaat has stated it cannot currently guarantee the viaduct’s safety for heavy traffic.
The viaduct, located on the Tielsestraat (N836), spans between Valburg and Herveld over the A15. Vehicles over 30 tons, such as loaded trucks, must detour using the Elst or Andelst junctions, with alternative routes marked by signs.
Construction issues have been identified, similar to those found on A12 viaducts near the Velperbroek junction in Arnhem. According to Omroep Gelderland, a design flaw and water infiltration have been detected.
As a precautionary measure, heavy vehicles are being rerouted due to the uncertainty of the viaduct’s current load capacity. Rijkswaterstaat plans to conduct further investigations over the coming months.
