This morning, the Hague city council commemorated the victims of the Tarwekamp explosion. Mayor Jan van Zanen delivered a speech, and a moment of silence was observed in remembrance of the six people who lost their lives.
Van Zanen stated that the explosion on December 7, which claimed six lives, has “shaken the city.” The incident occurred in a quiet residential area, transforming it into a scene reminiscent of a war zone. The mayor expressed condolences for those who lost their lives and mentioned the impact on local businesses.
Despite the tragedy, Van Zanen praised the unity and support shown by the residents of The Hague, particularly from the Mariahoeve district. Following the incident, four arrests were made.
The mayor emphasized his hope for justice. Additionally, it has been confirmed that some buildings adjacent to the explosion site are beyond repair and will be demolished, with further investigations ongoing regarding other parts of the complex, as reported by Omroep West.
