Google Street View assists Spanish police in solving case

Police in a village in the Spanish province of Soria solved a disappearance case with the help of a photo from Google Street View. The photo shows a man in a distinctive jacket placing a large sheet or bag into a car.

The case began in November 2023 when a man reported his Cuban nephew missing. The Cuban supposedly sent messages indicating he met a woman and was leaving the village where he lived.

His nephew doubted the authenticity of these messages and contacted the police, who launched an investigation. Various clues were found, including the mentioned Street View image.

The police identified the car’s owner and tapped his phone calls, which revealed that the missing Cuban had traveled to Spain to meet a woman. Following the intercepted conversations, police arrested both the woman and the car owner, suspecting them of kidnapping and killing the Cuban.

It remains unclear what transpired between his disappearance in November 2023 and October 2024, when the Street View photo was taken. However, police confirmed finding “a dismembered torso in an advanced state of decomposition” at the cemetery of Andaluz, north of Madrid, on December 11, believed to belong to the missing Cuban.

The police stated that the photo was “not decisive but provided a lead for the investigation.”
