In the United States, a funeral procession for former President Jimmy Carter was well-attended. The procession, featuring a hearse carrying Carter’s body, traveled through the streets of his birthplace, Plains, Georgia.
It then proceeded to Atlanta, pausing briefly at the Georgia State Capitol, where Carter served as a senator. His body was taken to the Carter Presidential Center, where the public can pay their respects until Tuesday.
A ceremony accompanied the lying in state. “We will spend this week celebrating this incredible life, which I believe we all agree is as full and powerful as a life can be.
As someone mentioned, it’s amazing what you can fit into a hundred years,” said Carter’s grandson. International Achievements Carter passed away last week at the age of 100.
He entered the White House in 1977 and achieved significant foreign policy successes as president. Notably, he played a key role in the Camp David Accords, which in 1978 resulted in a historic peace treaty between Egypt and Israel.
After his presidency, he dedicated himself to humanitarian work and conflict mediation. In 2002, he was awarded the Nobel Peace Prize.
The United States will observe a national day of mourning on January 9, when Carter will receive a state funeral at the Washington National Cathedral.
