Former minister Hanke Bruins Slot is returning to the military. Prior to her political career, Bruins Slot also served in the Royal Netherlands Army.
“I am eager to contribute again to Defense and security,” stated the 47-year-old Bruins Slot. She will hold the high rank of major general, though her specific role has not yet been announced.
Bruins Slot served as the Minister of the Interior and later as the Minister of Foreign Affairs in the fourth Rutte cabinet on behalf of the CDA. She was a Member of Parliament for nine years and a provincial executive in Utrecht for three years.
Before her political career, Bruins Slot was a military officer in the Army, serving as a platoon commander in Afghanistan. Commander of the Armed Forces Onno Eichelsheim expressed his satisfaction with her return, stating that her experiences over the years make her an asset to Defense.
