Former Indian PM Manmohan Singh Dies at 92

Manmohan Singh, former Prime Minister of India, has passed away at the age of 92. The announcement was made by current Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

Singh had been experiencing health issues, and was admitted to a hospital this evening after reportedly losing consciousness, according to Reuters. He died in the hospital.

Singh, an economist, began his political career as Finance Minister in 1991, representing the Congress Party. He implemented significant economic reforms, leading to substantial growth in India’s economy during that period.

In 2004, he became Prime Minister and held the position until 2014, when he was succeeded by Modi. Prime Minister Modi stated on X that the country mourns “one of its most distinguished leaders” who, as Prime Minister, worked to “improve people’s lives.”
