Flowers Pile Up at Magdeburg Church After Market Attack

In front of the Johanniskirche in Magdeburg, flowers are amassing as the community mourns the victims of a recent attack at the Christmas market, which resulted in at least five deaths and over two hundred injuries. Matthias, a former hospital worker in Magdeburg, aided the wounded, including children, after he heard about the incident.

Residents are still in shock, sharing concerns and checking on each other’s safety. Despite heightened security measures since the 2016 Berlin Christmas market attack, the incident has left many feeling vulnerable.

Community members express determination not to be deterred from visiting Christmas markets, considering them a quintessential German tradition.
